A person is not
a category.
More than one interest. One distinctive point of view.

Meet
Andre Ford.
“The trouble with labels is everything they leave out.”
People are always asking for a simpler answer. What are you? What do you do? Which part of you is the real one? I have never believed a person should have to leave the rest of themselves outside the room.
My interest in food grew during my Marine Corps service. Living in the Netherlands as a Marine Security Guard gave me the chance to travel throughout Europe, where I fell in love with how food reflects a place and its people. I later lived in Lusaka, Zambia, and experienced another culture before moving to New York to attend the French Culinary Institute. Years afterward, I wanted to pursue a degree in pastry arts at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. I was also drawn to television production, beginning with an internship at Food Network and eventually working as a food stylist.
Through it all, books remained part of my life, not its boundaries. So did style, humor, travel, photography, interiors, and an argument worth having. I can admire a sentence as much as the cut of a coat or a thoughtfully made meal. What connects these interests is not a category. It is attention.
I created FORD ROW to give them somewhere to meet: thoughtful without being solemn, beautiful without being obedient, personal without demanding that everyone agree. A place to read, wear, cook, listen, explore, question, and keep.
A person is not a product category. I will not shrink myself into one, and I will not ask you to either.
Independent taste.
Independent thought.
FORD ROW is a personal editorial world, not a category.
